>Rachel O’Reilly<
I am a writer, researcher and curator, and work with film, video, writing and ‘new’ media projects, practices, and organisations. Currently I am completing an MA in Film Studies at the University of Amsterdam, where I am working through neuroscience, media philosophy and critical theory applicable to contemporary moving image aesthetics and aesthetic politics.
Previously, I worked for the Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery of Modern Art, the publicly-funded contemporary art museum and cinematheque in Brisbane, Australia, from 2004 to 2008, where I co-curated The Leisure Class, and before that, as a program manager with This is not Art, an independent international media art festival dedicated to independent artists and emerging and non-traditional media art forms in Newcastle, Australia. I was also a writing and curatorial consultant to MAAP Multimedia Art Asia Pacific, a non-profit visual arts body dedicated to media art in Asia, and a curatorial adviser on the Place, Ground and Practice working group of the Pacific Rim New Media Summit, ISEA, San Jose 2006. My writing has been published by Cambridge Scholars Press, MIT Press, Postcolonial Studies, and RealTime Arts, as well as in museum publications and independent exhibition catalogues (see Publications). Every now and then I spurt out some strange short piece of fiction, which I’ll also post, and archive, here.
