On starting this blog

Welcome to Mentalization-positive. This blog’s moniker is actually just about writing, but is also meant to harness some of the intents and contents of my longstanding preoccupations that entwine writing, film/video, psych, and critical theory. The pre-filled ‘Categories’ headings at the bottom of page will give you some sense of the reading I’m currently doing, and the writing I desperately need to do around that. ‘Mentalization‘ is a term specific to attachment theory in psychology, which I’ve chosen for good reason (and which I’ll write more about). Even without such orienting definitions, the plan is that anyone who finds this blog will see it just as an enabling tool: sending preoccupations in the direction of the actual and particular world I have going on here i.e. writing thought usefully. I am also not against the kind of writing that might expand and conjure beyond its usefulness. I’ve tried to maintain a blog twice before – both those previous times alongside a demanding full-time research/curatorial job – and failed miserably with those blogs. I find the urge again; I do a little better.
